Madlanga Commission presses on with evidence against Feroz Khan despite his hospitalisation

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry continued hearing and recording evidence linked to Deputy Crime Intelligence head Maj-Gen. Feroz Khan even as he remains hospitalised after being shot several times on 28 June.

Proceedings continue in Khan’s absence

Commissioners were told the inquiry would read evidence into the official record while Khan is unavailable. Khan was implicated in material presented at the commission in claims involving fraud, corruption and other alleged misconduct.

WhatsApp messages and allegations over tenders

Evidence put before the commission included WhatsApp messages that the inquiry said showed frequent discussions about South African Police Service (SAPS) tenders. Investigators alleged Khan shared confidential procurement information in return for kickbacks.

Evidence leader Adila Hassim highlighted an exchange in which a person named Vally allegedly asked Khan to influence changes to tender specifications to favour a single supplier. Hassim read the exchange into the record, quoting a reply attributed to Khan:

“I think it’s too late to change the specifications now, let me try.”

Hassim also alleged that Khan worked with SAPS Divisional Commissioner for Supply Chain Molefe Fani in efforts to manipulate tender processes.

Allegations still before the commission

The commission is considering the allegations. The material presented links Khan to controversial businessman Mohammed “Mo” Sayed in relation to procurement matters, according to the evidence heard.

The allegations remain subject to the commission’s determination.
