UK fugitive wanted over wife, daughters’ deaths pleads guilty in Joburg court

A 45-year-old man wanted in the UK over the deaths of his wife and two daughters has pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition in South Africa. 

Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to all four counts relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. 

The plea followed a Section 105A agreement between the State and the defence. 

According to police, Tshuma was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition that he had allegedly bought in South Africa after his arrest in Kensington, Johannesburg, on 10 July. 

Plea and sentencing agreement proceedings are currently underway at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in the firearm related case of alleged UK fugitive Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma. He also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of contravening the Immigration Act after allegedly entering South Africa illegally while wanted in the UK. 

According to Tshuma is wanted by British authorities in connection with the deaths of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, five.

The three were found with fatal head injuries at their home in Great Denham, near Bedford, on 7 July. 

Authorities said Tshuma had left the UK two days before the bodies were discovered. 

However, Tshuma has not been convicted of any offence relating to the deaths. 

His lawyer, Chrispen Machingura, told EWN that it is unlikely the public will know anytime soon how his client intends to plead to the murder charges in the UK. 

The firearm and immigration charges before the South African court are separate from the allegations surrounding the deaths of Tshuma’s wife and daughters in the UK.
