Akasia CPF invites Sector 2 residents to volunteer

The Akasia CPF committee is appealing to residents of Sector 2 to step up and join the collective effort to combat crime and enhance community safety.

The CPF is set to organise a volunteer vetting session at 10:00 on Sunday at Wonderpark Shopping Centre.

The initiative aims to engage residents actively and create a proactive network focused on keeping the community safe.

Public Relations Officer Lerato Makwe said the importance of community involvement in crime prevention can’t be overstated, and by joining the CPF, residents can contribute to reducing crime, increasing vigilance and fostering a sense of unity within Sector 2.

“One of the key motivations behind this call for volunteers is the noticeable lack of representation of Sector 2 within the CPF.

“Residents will have firsthand knowledge of their neighbourhoods, which is invaluable in crafting effective crime prevention strategies. Their involvement will ensure that initiatives are tailored to meet the specific needs and concerns of the community.”

She said when residents come together, they not only enhance safety but also strengthen community ties and a united community is better equipped to respond to and deter crime.

“The CPF aims to establish an engaged citizen network that conducts street-by-street and block-by-block patrols.

We are looking to recruit 20 to 30 active volunteers from Sector 2 and this number will enable the CPF to implement patrols, manage safety initiatives, and ensure that the community’s voice is heard.

A robust volunteer presence will enhance the effectiveness of the CPF’s efforts and increase community resilience against crime.

Volunteers can choose to take on responsibilities that align with their interests and skills, whether it is active patrolling, organising events or conducting educational outreaches,” Makwe said.

Makwe said while attending the vetting session at Wonderpark she is highly encouraged by that the CPF understands that not everyone will be able to make it.
