Concurrent search and seizures underway regarding Tembisa Hospital alleged procurement corruption

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team leads search and seizure operations at Bedfordview and offices in Germiston and Edenvale this morning. The action is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged tender irregularities that led to around one billion rands transferred from the Gauteng Department of Health. According to the South African Police Service, this action is a follow-up operation to the one executed at Tembisa Hospital at the end of 2022.

The investigation focuses on tenders attached to Tembisa Hospital from 2016 to early 2022. In addition, the Hawks are investigating over 220 entities and individuals for numerous allegations, including schemes that allegedly breached the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). Suspects made these schemes possible through tender manipulation, kickbacks, inflated prices, duplicated invoices, and other violations.

The Hawks have seized several electronic devices and documentary evidence for further investigation and have made no arrests.
