Eskom imposes rotational power cuts in parts of Gauteng after Seboka transformer fire
Where and when the rotation runs
The rotational outages affect Sebokeng Zones 3, 6 and 7, and parts of Zone 7B. Eskom’s Gauteng Cluster newsletter, Connect, said the schedule was initially set to run from 8 to 11 July and has since been extended to continue until 12 July while the damaged transformer is being replaced.
How the load rotation works
Eskom said supply will be cut in four-hour blocks that rotate between the affected zones so that no single area goes without power for the full period. The utility described the arrangement as temporary and necessary to ensure customers continue to receive electricity at scheduled intervals during repair work.
Advice and warnings for customers
Eskom urged customers to treat all electrical appliances and installations as live throughout the load rotation period. The utility warned that supply may be restored without prior notice, meaning appliances left switched on could power up unexpectedly. Customers were also asked to switch on electrical appliances gradually once supply returns to avoid overloading the local network.
Eskom response and next steps
Eskom apologised for the disruption and said it is working to restore normal supply as soon as possible. The utility cautioned that circumstances beyond its control could affect implementation and that the schedule may not always run exactly as planned.
“We will continue to provide updates as work progresses,” Eskom said, thanking customers for their patience while repairs continue.
