Natasha Kara, KZN NPA spokesperson, revealed that Pillay, driving a private security company vehicle, passed Mthethwa before fatally shooting him. His status as a first-time offender influenced the court’s decision to sentence him to 20 years instead of life imprisonment. Consequently, Pillay was stripped of his firearm privileges. The NPA expressed appreciation for the collective efforts of the prosecution and involved parties in achieving the conviction.
