Gauteng Traffic Police member arrested for hijacking SAPS cop’s car

In a shocking turn of events, a Gauteng traffic police officer has been arrested and charged with hijacking. The officer, who has not yet been named, was apprehended by the Joburg Metro Police Department after allegedly hijacking a South African Police Service member who was off-duty at the time.

This is a developing story, and more details will be released as they become available. However, we know that the officer in question has been suspended pending an investigation and that the victim is safe and unharmed.

On Monday, October 31, 2022, officers from the K9 and Undercover Reaction Unit of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department apprehended a 29-year-old male suspect in Dobsonville, Soweto, while driving a stolen white Volkswagen Polo.

The team was strategically positioned near Impala Road in Dobsonville Gardens to be on the lookout for the car after the information was operationalized.

According to IOL the officers received information from Crime Intelligence that the suspects were on their way to sell the vehicle in Meadowlands.

The officers then spotted the hijacked Volkswagen Polo driving down Impala Road, and they gave chase. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The officers caught him and arrested him.
