Millions of South Africans who rely on social grants will receive their payments earlier than usual in November 2026 after the South African Social Security Agency adjusted its schedule ahead of the Local Government Elections on 4 November.

The revised timetable affects older persons, disability and children’s grant beneficiaries. SASSA said the dates were selected to support the orderly administration of payments during the election period, following consultations with stakeholders and approval from the National Treasury.

New SASSA payment dates for November 2026

Under the updated schedule, older persons will be paid first on Friday, 30 October. Disability grant beneficiaries will receive their payments on Monday, 2 November, followed by children’s grant payments on Tuesday, 3 November.

Beneficiaries whose grants are currently under review have a separate payment date. Their grants are scheduled for payment on Thursday, 5 November.

  • Older persons’ grants: Friday, 30 October 2026
  • Disability grants: Monday, 2 November 2026
  • Children’s grants: Tuesday, 3 November 2026
  • Grants under review: Thursday, 5 November 2026

Why the schedule was changed

The adjustment is linked to preparations for the local government elections. Moving some payments forward gives beneficiaries access to their grants before the election date and helps SASSA manage grant administration around that period.

The timing is particularly relevant for beneficiaries who depend on grant payments for regular household needs. A change to the usual schedule can affect when people plan withdrawals and other essential spending, which is why the agency has published a specific timetable for each category.

SASSA said the changes followed discussions with various stakeholders and were supported by the National Treasury. The agency described the revised dates as part of its effort to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner.

“The agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner,” SASSA said in its statement.

What beneficiaries whose grants are under review should do

SASSA has separately reminded beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond promptly to official communications. They should also attend any review appointments requested by the agency.

A grant under review may require additional action from the beneficiary before the process can be completed. Responding to official communication and attending a requested appointment are therefore important steps for people affected by the review process.

The payment date for this group is set for 5 November, after the dates assigned to older persons, disability and children’s grants. Beneficiaries should keep the revised schedule in mind when checking the status of their payments.

SASSA urges beneficiaries to use official information

The agency has cautioned beneficiaries against visiting SASSA offices unless it is necessary. Payments will be processed according to the revised timetable, and an office visit may not be required simply to confirm the payment dates.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to rely on SASSA’s official communication channels for updates. This is especially important during a period when incorrect information about grant payments may circulate.

Checking information through official channels can help beneficiaries distinguish between the confirmed timetable and unverified claims. It also allows them to identify any instructions connected to a grant under review, including requests to respond or attend an appointment.

Key dates to remember

The most important change is that several grant categories will be paid before the election date of 4 November. Older persons’ grants are scheduled for 30 October, disability grants for 2 November and children’s grants for 3 November. Payments for grants under review are scheduled for 5 November.

Beneficiaries should plan around the category that applies to them and avoid relying on unofficial payment information. SASSA’s revised schedule is intended to provide clarity while ensuring that grant administration continues smoothly during the election period.
