GDE: Student Who Drowned During School Excursion Heroically Attempted to Rescue Another Pupil

A school excursion organised by an NGO, Rising Stars Generation, was a venue that witnessed the death of a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy from Daveyton Skills School, who drowned in the Hennops River of Centurion on Monday.

As per the statement published by the GDE, one of the pupils had gone to help another child who, without anybody’s notice, had run away to the nearby river during the school excursion, as reported by EWN.

The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, informed the press that the boys involved in this incident participated in a water activity when the accident happened.

The prosecutor also intimated that the first learner ran away from the scene, resulting in the second learner attempting to rescue him from the river. Unfortunately, both learners drowned out the process, as highlighted.
