Three suspected criminals were killed and a fourth person was injured after a pursuit by police and private security ended in a shoot-out in Cato Manor, The Citizen (Berea Mail) reports.
What happened
According to The Citizen (Berea Mail), the incident occurred on Thursday, September 10 at about 15:00 along Cato Manor Road and Corona Road. The pursuit involved police and private security officials and ended in gunfire.
Casualties and response
According to The Citizen (Berea Mail), three suspects were killed and one other person was injured in the shoot-out. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency teams were sent after reports of multiple gunshots and casualties.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find four wanted suspects wanted for multiple crimes were being followed by officials when the shoot-out occurred. Three out of the four men sustained fatal injuries; they were declared deceased on the scene and the fourth male suffered minor injuries. He was taken to hospital under police guard for further care.”
According to The Citizen (Berea Mail), the suspects were reportedly wanted in connection with a series of business robberies and other crimes. Jamieson also said no injuries were sustained by security personnel and law enforcement officials who were in pursuit of the suspects.
Ongoing scene and police comment
According to The Citizen (Berea Mail), motorists were advised to avoid the area because it remained an active crime scene. Police were yet to comment at the time of publishing.
