Tragic accident on Durban's M41 highway as truck collides with multiple vehicles

Following a multi-vehicle crash on the M41 highway in Umhlanga, north of Durban, emergency services are attending to several casualties, as reported by SABC news. A truck was believed to have lost control and hit at least fifteen vehicles on the road from Gateway mall into Durban City.

The incident resulted in several injuries, but fortunately, there were no fatalities reported.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Dylan Meyrick confirmed that multiple services were on the scene to provide assistance to those affected by the accident.

“IPSS medical rescue is currently on scene on the M4 near the M41 interchange where there’s been a serious accident involving a truck and up to fifteen light motor vehicles. There are multiple injuries on scene and multiple services are on scene assisting,” Meyrick said.

Pictures and videos of the aftermath of the accident have been circulating on social media. The footage shows numerous damaged vehicles scattered across the highway. Eyewitnesses say the crash caused a significant traffic buildup in the area.

The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, and investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, emergency services continue to work at the scene to clear the wreckage and assist those affected.

However, it is clear that the crash has caused significant disruption on the busy highway, and authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area.
