The murder trial of former soccer player Lucky Maselesele continues in the High Court of Johannesburg, with Xolani Gumbi and Luvuyo April facing charges for allegedly beating the athlete to death. The incident occurred in October 2021 when Maselesele was accused of stealing electrical cables in Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg as reported by SABC News.

Gumbi and April were arrested shortly after the attack following a complaint from community members reporting the assault of an unknown man.

The trial has heard several testimonies from witnesses, shedding light on the events leading up to Maselesele’s death.

This case highlights the issue of vigilantism and the importance of upholding the rule of law, even when community members take matters into their own hands.

As the trial resumes, the justice system must work to ensure that those responsible for Maselesele’s death are held accountable for their actions.
