Madlanga Commission probes Feroz Khan’s R39m property portfolio and 30 vehicles

According to IOL (Independent Online), the Madlanga Commission is examining the unexplained wealth of Deputy Crime Intelligence head Feroz Khan after financial records and WhatsApp messages were presented as evidence raising questions about his lifestyle.

Allegations on wealth and assets

IOL reports that financial disclosure records shown to the commission indicate Khan purchased 30 vehicles in a single year. The records also reportedly show he owns a car parts business that generates an estimated R3 million in annual income. Evidence leaders told the commission Khan is estimated to own a property portfolio valued at approximately R39 million, which includes luxury homes in George, Houghton and Umhlanga.

WhatsApp messages and tender discussions

The commission heard evidence that included WhatsApp messages said to reveal frequent discussions about South African Police Service (SAPS) tenders, according to IOL. Those messages were presented alongside the financial records as part of the probe into Khan’s wealth.

Concerns raised by evidence leaders

Evidence leaders told the commission the scale of Khan’s declared wealth was troubling.

“The problem rather is that General Khan is a senior Crime Intelligence officer and he was earning two-and-a-half times more a year than his public salary in his own disclosures,”

Advocate Adila Hassim said this to the commission, according to IOL.
