MK Party MP David Skosana suspended for 15 parliamentary days and docked pay

MK Party MP David Skosana has been suspended from parliamentary debates and committee proceedings for 15 parliamentary days and will forfeit his salary and allowances for the duration of the suspension after being found to have breached Parliament’s code of conduct.

What Parliament found

Parliament said the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests concluded that Skosana contravened the Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests in two separate matters.

Undisclosed directorship

In the first matter, the committee found that Skosana had failed to properly disclose a directorship in UVO Communications in the public section of the Register of Members’ Interests, despite the company being identified in Auditor-General audit findings as a service provider. For that breach he was reprimanded in the House and fined R15,000.

Intimidation of a journalist

In the second matter, the committee found that Skosana had verbally intimidated a Newzroom Afrika journalist following an interview conducted in Parliament. He was reprimanded in the House and suspended from parliamentary debates and committee meetings for 15 parliamentary days, with his salary and allowances reduced for the suspension period.

Implementation and wider action

Parliament said the National Assembly approved the committee’s recommendations on 11 June 2026. The resolutions took effect on 3 August 2026 after the Speaker formally notified both members on 23 June 2026 of the implementation dates.

Skosana was suspended alongside National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams, who faces separate sanctions for publishing a Facebook post that disclosed a staff member’s personal contact details. Parliament said the sanctions were implemented after the House adopted the committee reports and stressed that:

“The Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests exists to safeguard the integrity, dignity and credibility of Parliament and to promote public confidence in the institution.”

Parliament added that “the implementation of these sanctions underscores Parliament’s commitment to accountability and to ensuring that all Members uphold the ethical standards expected of elected public representatives.”

Suspension dates

Parliament said Fadiel Adams will serve his suspension from 3 August to 28 August 2026, while Skosana will serve his suspension from 3 August to 21 August 2026.
