Eskom has scheduled a nine-hour electricity interruption affecting parts of Chiawelo and Dlamini in Soweto on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 to allow for planned maintenance on its distribution network.

What residents need to know

The outage is planned to run from 09:00 to 18:00 on 28 July 2026. Eskom said the interruption is necessary to perform essential maintenance on distribution power lines.

Why the maintenance is happening

Eskom said planned maintenance is part of its maintenance plan in Gauteng and is carried out to help ensure the safety, reliability and efficiency of the electricity supply.

Safety advice during the outage

In the interest of safety, Eskom urged customers to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power outage.

Possible changes

Eskom noted that should circumstances beyond its control arise, the planned maintenance may not proceed as communicated. The power utility apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Areas named by Eskom

  • Parts of Chiawelo
  • Parts of Dlamini (both in Soweto)

“The power outage will affect customers in parts of Chiawelo and Dlamini on Tuesday, 28 July, from 09:00 – 18:00. The interruption of electricity is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” Eskom said.

This report is based on an Eskom notice published by The South African. If the planned maintenance proceeds as scheduled, affected residents should plan accordingly for the nine-hour interruption.
