Fibre cable thieves caught red-handed in south of Johannesburg – confirms JMPD

Three men, suspected to be fibre cable thieves, were apprehended by Johannesburg metro police in Gillview, Johannesburg South, following a theft incident on Thursday.

According to spokesperson Xolani Fihla, officers on patrol along Rifle Range and Side roads noticed a man standing near a white Renault Kwid and decided to investigate. The SowetanLIVE reports that upon approaching the vehicle, they discovered five individuals hiding behind it, with the stolen cables scattered on the ground.

Unfortunately, two suspects managed to escape before they could be apprehended. They found an airgun, digging tools, a steel saw, and two spare saw blades.

The JMPD took the arrested men into custody at Booysens SAPS, where a docket was opened to facilitate further investigation. Additionally, the vehicle involved in the incident was seized by the authorities.
