A food tower in Fourways, part of the annual Power Towers Food Drive, is set to make a significant impact in aiding those in need.

With the cost of living continuously on the rise and a challenging economic climate, many households in the country face hunger. In response, Design Quarter, the premier design and homeware destination in Fourways, has taken a proactive stance by encouraging its customers to contribute non-perishable food items.

This initiative is part of the annual Power Towers Food Drive, which was born out of necessity and initiated by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The towering structure will be constructed at Design Quarter on November 11.

Jaci Tibbit, Mrs African United Continent 2022, noted, “In the true spirit of South Africa, people from various provinces have embraced this project and started competing to build the largest food tower.”

“This competitive spirit has given momentum to the endeavor of collecting non-perishable food items for families in need. Over the past three years, the project has gained significant momentum, benefiting over 50 charity organisations with food donations.”

Tibbit stressed that this initiative isn’t limited to Fourways but extends to various regions throughout the country. “Each food tower in different provinces is given a unique name, often inspired by values like love, peace, and hope.”

In Gauteng, the food tower is named the ‘Tower of Hope.’ The Design Quarter team, the current titleholders, is making substantial efforts to retain the humanitarian trophy in the province by building the largest tower once again. Shoppers are encouraged to donate wholeheartedly, and Fresh FM, an online station, will broadcast live from the centre on the day to keep residents informed about the tower’s progress.

Tibbit earnestly urges residents to participate in the initiative by donating food for those in need. Drop-off points are outside Checkers and Clicks retail stores during the centre’s trading hours, with both retailers generously providing staff to assist in packing and processing the donations.
