Lunar substation is back online

The Lunar substation is back online, announced City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, providing an update on the restoration progress following the fire incident on Saturday evening. As per Jacaranda FM, the incident left residents in Lenasia South, Migson Manor, Finetown, Mountain View, and surrounding areas without electricity.

Mangena highlighted that the ongoing work primarily involves testing protection functions crucial for safeguarding the transformer and the substation from future fire risks, similar to the recent explosion. He emphasised the importance of these tests before reconnecting the auxiliary transformer, which was cleared for operation on Monday but required material sourcing for connection.

Additionally, Mangena mentioned that further tests by a team of operators on all distributors are scheduled, with plans to energise the substation after several days offline. City Power remains on track to meet the estimated restoration time set for Wednesday.
