IEC Gears Up: Over 69k Staff Trained to Aid South Africans in Voter Registration

All systems are going for the voter registration weekend, as the Electoral Commission (IEC) announces the recruitment and training of over 69k staff members dedicated to assisting citizens.

Providing an update on its readiness in Pretoria on Wednesday, the commission revealed that at least 27 million people have already been registered to vote, with expectations of a surge over the upcoming weekend, according to EWN.

To facilitate the process, the commission has secured lease agreements for the venues to be used during the registration period. Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo highlighted the presence of temporary voting stations in areas lacking infrastructure, predominantly in Gauteng, followed by Free State and Limpopo.

Mamabolo urged all eligible South Africans to register over the weekend if they haven’t already.
