Residents of Westbury have accused the police of neglecting their duties

Despite an Imbizo and increased police visibility barely a month ago, Westbury residents in Johannesburg again accuse the police of failing to protect them. The recent shooting of a 19-year-old man on Tuesday, the second in two weeks, has sparked fear of more violence as reported by eNCA.

Despite the deployment of nine teams, including the tactical response team and members of the anti-gang unit, residents of Westbury in Johannesburg still feel unsafe and claim that Police Minister Bheki Cele’s promises have not been fulfilled.

However, Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela has defended the police, stating they are present despite residents’ claims.
