This caution comes on the heels of a Mpumalanga traffic officer’s sentencing for accepting a R200 bribe from undercover anti-corruption agents. The officer, apprehended during Project Arrive Alive, pleaded guilty, receiving a R4,000 fine or 12 months imprisonment, with an additional five-year suspended sentence.

The RTMC emphasises the need for severe penalties against officers involved in bribery and urges citizens to report any suspected misconduct. The convicted officer faced termination of employment following a disciplinary hearing, and despite attempting to contest the decision, the termination was upheld.
