IEC Stresses Deadline for South Africans to Lodge Voter Roll Objections Until March 4th

The IEC has set a deadline of March 4 for South Africans to raise objections to the voters roll. In an update on Monday, the IEC outlined preparations for the national elections slated for May 29. According to EWN, it announced the release of a provisional voters’ roll on Monday, with the final version scheduled for publication in April.

Anticipating the participation of approximately 27.6 million citizens, these elections mark the seventh democratic exercise in the country. Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo highlighted that objections submitted by March 4 would undergo thorough consideration, investigation, and determination by the commission by March 11. Mamabolo underscored the necessity of meeting specific requirements for a successful objection application.

He reiterated that objections to the voters’ roll are subject to legal regulations, emphasising compliance with procedural and substantive requirements outlined in section 15 of the Electoral Act.
