Known for his roles as the former editor of The Star and Cape Argus, media manager for the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee, and branding executive at Independent Media, Craig’s influence extended across various facets of the media landscape. Survived by his wife, Michelle, mother, and two children, he left an indelible mark on the industry.

Tributes poured in, highlighting Craig’s dedication and insight. As a member of the Vodacom Journalist of the Year (VJOY) judging panel since 2019, he approached the challenging task of reviewing over 1,300 entries with precision. Mapi Mhlangu, a VJOY convener, expressed gratitude to Craig’s family for their support, highlighting that his passion for storytelling and honouring journalists’ work will endure as part of his lasting legacy.

Tshamano Makhadi, SA National Editor’s Forum treasurer general, reminisced about Craig’s early years as a sports reporter at The Star, recalling his standout coverage of the 2003 boxing bout between Floyd Mayweather and Phillip Ndou in Michigan. Makhadi underlined Craig’s unique access to camps and A-listers in the U.S., showcasing his journalistic prowess.

Craig’s impact reached beyond journalism, as evidenced by 4Racing, a horse racing operator, expressing deep sorrow over his death. Describing him as a true maestro in communication, 4Racing CEO Fundi Sithebe emphasized Craig’s dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment to their vision.
