Three passengers were seriously injured, and one woman was airlifted to a specialist facility following a truck accident in the east of Pretoria on Saturday, May 18, at around 21:00. The accident entailed a head-on collision between a light vehicle and a truck 5 km on the N4 before the Watermeyer offramp.

Tshwane emergency services have reported that the light vehicle rammed into the truck from behind. No information is available as to what precisely caused the accident.

Mr Mabaso, the spokesperson of the Emergency Services, said that two women and one male were seriously injured in the accident and were still pinned inside the car.

“Emergency Services arrived on the scene and found three patients trapped inside the vehicle.

“They had to use the ‘Jaws of Life’ to extricate the patients from the vehicle”, said Mabaso.

The patients were rescued and stabilised at the scene. Mabaso further revealed that two males and a female were taken to Steve Biko Hospital for medical attention. The third female patient was also transferred by chopper to Milpark Hospital, a psychiatric hospital, noted Mabaso.

Additional emergency units responded timely to the accident, ensuring that the patients received speedy attention from Tshwane Emergency Services. However, forensics regarding the cause of the accident remains open.
