EWN reports that the City of Tshwane metro had resumed bus operations on Tuesday morning after they were suspended in July due to safety concerns affecting commuters and staff. However, South African Municipal Workers Union employees have been on strike for over a month regarding the city’s bid to freeze salary hikes.

Out of 160 buses that were supposed to be on the road on Tuesday morning, only one left the Tshwane bus depot at around 6 a.m. The strike has also affected other services, with uncollected rubbish littering the capital’s sidewalks.
