MR.DIY. opens first Mpumalanga store as South African rollout continues

MR.DIY. will open its first store in Mpumalanga at Highveld Mall on 19 August 2026, the Malaysian value retailer said as it expands its South African footprint.

The Highveld Mall launch marks MR.DIY.’s entry into another South African province as the company works towards a national rollout. The retailer said the new store will give shoppers access to its range of affordable home, hardware and lifestyle products.

Expansion progress in South Africa

MR.DIY. entered the South African market in 2024 with its first store at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre. The retailer has since opened stores at Irene Village Mall, Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, Norwood Mall and Mall@Carnival. The Mall@Carnival outlet, which opened in March, was the company’s fifth South African store at that time.

In May and June, MR.DIY. opened additional outlets at Northgate Shopping Centre and Wonderpark Shopping Centre, described as its sixth and seventh stores.

Store format and offering

The company’s stores are typically large-format outlets of more than 1 000 square metres, carrying between 17 000 and 18 000 products. The range includes hardware, household essentials, stationery, toys, décor and small electronics, with the retailer positioning itself as an affordable one-stop shop.

Further roll-out and events

MR.DIY. said it is targeting 14 South African stores by the end of 2026. The retailer is also opening at Saxony Westwood in KwaZulu-Natal on 14 August, and a grand opening event for the new stores is scheduled for 29 and 30 August.

MR.DIY. began as a single hardware store in Malaysia in 2005 and has grown into a global retailer with nearly 5 000 stores across Asia and Europe. South Africa represents the company’s first move into Africa.
