Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. Discovery for $500 Million Over Defamatory Documentary

Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment, accusing the producers of the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence of promoting false and defamatory claims to boost viewership. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that the documentary aired baseless allegations of sexual assault and evidence tampering, damaging Brown’s reputation and spreading misinformation.
The complaint claims that the producers knowingly sensationalized debunked claims to attract more viewers and increase revenue. Brown’s legal team stated, “Mr. Brown has never been found at fault for any type of sexual crime.” The lawsuit also accuses the companies of ignoring their ethical duties as journalists.
The documentary, which aired on October 27, 2024, on Investigation Discovery (ID), centers around allegations made by Daisia Chantel Frank, referred to as “Jane Doe.” Brown’s attorneys argue that these allegations had already been thoroughly discredited in court years ago.

According to the legal complaint, Frank is described as a documented perpetrator of domestic violence, with a history of physical assault and threats of violence against her romantic partner. Brown’s team claims the producers were aware of Frank’s history but chose to amplify her defamatory lies.
Brown’s attorneys, Levi McCathern and Evan Selik, emphasized that the producers intentionally disregarded evidence disproving their claims. They stated, “Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information.”
In a statement shared via Instagram, Brown’s legal team described the lawsuit as a fight for accountability, aiming to stand against the exploitation of misinformation for personal gain. The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages, a portion of which will be donated to survivors of sexual abuse.
Brown’s team also highlighted that his 2017 documentary Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life remains the definitive account of his experiences and growth.
