ActionSA Takes Bold Move to Oust Speaker and Mayor with No-Confidence Motion

ActionSA said they would submit the motion against Speaker Colleen Makhubele and Mayor Thapelo Amad on Tuesday

On Tuesday, ActionSA announced its intention to table motions of no confidence against the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg and the Speaker. The party believes this move will end the “embarrassment of the city”. Accordingly, ActionSA said they would submit the motion against Speaker Colleen Makhubele and Mayor Thapelo Amad on Tuesday.

According to Eyewitness News, ActionSA has accused Amad of needing to be equipped to run the city since his election. The party’s Gauteng chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, claims that Amad still needs to articulate a clear plan for the city. Additionally, he needed help understanding the basics of a loan agreement during a recent television interview. ActionSA has also accused Speaker Makhubele of being dishonest after she allegedly used ill health as an excuse to avoid a council sitting. However, she was later present at a sitting of the City of Tshwane Council on the same day.

This motion is not the only one taking place in Gauteng metropolitan municipalities. For example, the City of Tshwane council is also preparing for a motion of no confidence against Speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana, which will take place on Wednesday.
