A water supply disruption has struck the communities of Benoni, Boksburg, and Brakpan, leaving taps running dry. The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) revealed that the cause of this inconvenience was a fault at Rand Water’s Mapleton Booster Station, which occurred on July 12. Shedding light on the situation, CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini conveyed that the utility swiftly responded to the issue, successfully repairing the tripped switch at the facility and resuming operations.

However, despite this significant progress, a new challenge emerged as the water supply system was found to be completely drained. As a result, residents should brace for a temporary disruption in normalising water pressure and supply, particularly in high-lying areas. The CoE is well aware of the gravity of the situation and assures the public that they are diligently monitoring developments while striving to maintain an adequate water supply.

In response to the crisis, the CoE has taken proactive steps to alleviate the impact on affected communities. Roving water tankers have been deployed to these areas, offering a crucial lifeline by delivering water to needy residents. The presence of these tankers will persist until the situation stabilises and the water supply returns to its usual state of operation.

As the CoE continues its efforts to address the situation, they remain committed to keeping residents informed. Any further developments or updates regarding the water supply issue will be promptly communicated through the city’s digital platforms, ensuring that the public remains aware of the situation’s progress and any additional measures taken to rectify it.
