The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has expressed challenges in taking action against two unidentified officers who were seen apparently encouraging a motorist to drive at high speeds. A video circulating on social media captures the two officers engaging with an Audi RS3 driver, urging them to accelerate as reported by News 24.

Although the officers’ faces are not visible in the footage, they can be heard complimenting the vehicle and inquiring about its speed capabilities.

“I love this vehicle. Is it on sports mode?” queried the officers. Following this, the driver starts the car, prompting the police to exclaim, “There we go,” seemingly approvingly.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, identifying the officers based on the video alone is proving to be a challenge, making it difficult to take immediate action.

For a comprehensive investigation to be conducted, Fihla emphasised the importance of obtaining additional information regarding the specific time and location of the incident.

Furthermore, Fihla condemned the conduct of both the officers and the motorist, deeming it unacceptable.

“The JMPD does not condone such behavior from the motorist and, especially, from the officers who are expected to display better judgement. They have a responsibility to uphold the law and ensure compliance at all times,” Fihla stated.
