Update: Kingsway Baby and Two Other Abducted Children Located in the Company of ‘Nurses’

In a significant development, the kidnapped Kingsway baby has been found, along with two other abducted children, by the police. Grace Gumbo (26) and Mercy Tsoko (28) were arrested and charged with child abduction and infringement of the Immigration Act of South Africa.

The four-month-old baby girl, Desire Museba, who was allegedly kidnapped on September 4 by women posing as nurses, was found in Mpumalanga on January 2, according to Captain Nelda Sekgobela, the SAPS Ekurhuleni district communication officer.

The police also discovered a boy and a girl, aged four years and four months, respectively, in the company of the two women initially suspected in the kidnapping of baby Desire.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the police spokesman in Mpumalanga, stated that community members in Ogies tipped off the police about two women pretending to be caregivers and having three children with them. The officers’ swift response led to the arrest of the suspects at a shack in Ogies.

The abducted children, including baby Desire, were taken from locations in Thubelihle in Kriel and Marble Hall. The suspects, Grace Gumbo and Mercy Tsoko, appeared in the Kriel Magistrate’s Court on January 3, with the matter being postponed for further investigation. Both will remain in custody.

Captain Sekgobela highlighted that a buccal swab test was conducted on the mother, Brilliant Museba, and her child. “The mother positively identified her child by her birthmark. The child is still at a place of safety,” said Sekgobela.

The two women, claiming to be auxiliary nurses, had promised Brilliant Museba assistance from Far East Rand Hospital, including food parcels, nappies, and clothes for her baby. However, the sinister plot unfolded when, on the day of the kidnapping, the women changed their plans, leaving the distraught mother stranded at the hospital. They assured her they would meet her there, but they never arrived.
