The explosion at the Mooikloof substation on Wednesday night was caused by a fault on one of the power lines outside the substation, according to Tshwane MMC for Utilities and Regional Operations Themba Fosi. Jacaranda FM reports that the subsequent fire damaged Transformer B and the 11kV Panels of the substation. Fosi stated that technical teams are diligently investigating the root cause of the fire. “Concurrently, relevant equipment is undergoing thorough testing to determine the course of action for power restoration to affected residents,” he added. “However, due to the ongoing assessment and cleanup efforts, we are unable to provide an estimated time of restoration at this stage.” Fosi acknowledged the inconvenience faced by residents and businesses in the affected areas, urging patience as they work to resolve the issue.
