Convicted schoolboy murderer Peter Mphulo Magolego’s sentencing has been postponed in the Alexandra Regional Court to April 30. The delay comes as Magolego faces another legal matter in a different court, prompting the adjournment of his sentencing hearing, initially scheduled for April 23. This postponement follows Magolego’s guilty plea entered during his trial appearance on April 16.

Due to his admission of guilt, the court convicted Magolego and ordered his continued detention pending sentencing, which was initially set for April 23. The case, which spanned three years, faced jurisdictional deliberations between the South Gauteng High Court and the Alexandra Regional Court before trial.

The victim, Thando Khumalo, a learner at Sandtonview High School, tragically lost his life in the incident. Khumalo, adopted by Sipho Masebe as per his late sister’s wishes, was fatally shot following a road rage altercation on August 28, 2022. The confrontation occurred as Khumalo and his friends were returning home from a night out, ending in his untimely death at the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyr Street in Tsutsumani Village.

Magolego, a well-known figure in Alexandra, engaged in a dispute with the group of boys after a driving incident, eventually leading to a fatal encounter. Pursuing them with a firearm, Magolego caught up with Khumalo and fatally shot him in the head, leaving another boy injured in the leg. The sentencing hearing, now rescheduled for April 30, awaits the final legal deliberations in this tragic case.
