Non-paid security guards in Pretoria protest against the city’s outsourcing of security services despite a council resolution to insource 4,000 guards in phases. The guards have been protesting since Monday and are calling for an end to contracts with private companies and complete absorption by the City of Tshwane as reported by the Pretoria Rekord.

The guards also demand a sit-down with the city’s newly elected mayor, Cilliers Brink.

However, the City of Tshwane stated they are not obligated to pay the protesting guards.
