Shocking news: Thapelo Amad resigns as Johannesburg Mayor after just three months in office!
Thapelo Amad, a member of the minority political party Al Jama-ah, has resigned as the mayor of Johannesburg. This news came during a media briefing held by several political parties on April 24. Rosebank Killarney Gazette reports that Amad’s resignation came a day before a motion of no confidence was due against him during a special meeting on April 25. Since Amad has resigned, the council has now postponed the meeting.
Councillor Colleen Makhubele, the speaker of the council, has confirmed that the board will elect the new Executive Mayor during an extraordinary council meeting on May 2.
