winner of powerball jackpot still to claim prize

The winner of the Powerball jackpot, valued at over R33 million, has yet to claim their prize. IOL reports that the unknown person purchased the ticket at Spar in Alberton, Johannesburg. Ithuba National Lottery has urged players to check their tickets and claim prizes at their nearest Ithuba office. Tickets are valid for up to 365 days from the draw date, and this winning ticket will expire on April 11, 2024.

Ithuba stated that if none claimed the winnings before the tickets expired, they would transfer them to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund for good causes. In addition, the lottery operator uses various methods to locate winners who have yet to come forward, including advertising unclaimed prizes in the store where the ticket was sold and in the local vicinity and region.

Although some players prefer to hold onto their tickets for up to a year and claim their prizes closer to the holidays, Ithuba recommends something other than this practice due to the risk of losing or missing the prize’s deadline. In May 2022, Ithuba reported R280 million worth of unclaimed tickets from games across their platforms that were due to expire.
