Truck Collision Shuts Down N1 Between Pretoria and Johannesburg
On April 17, early in the morning, a collision between two trucks caused both directions of the N1 to close between Pretoria and Johannesburg. The vehicles caught fire upon impact, but emergency services put out the fire. No casualties were confirmed. Authorities warned drivers to avoid the area due to hazardous materials at the scene. Traffic officials diverted traffic through Hatfield and Watermeyer Street.
The highway experienced heavy congestion as authorities cleared the scene, which caused significant delays along the N1 and the nearby N4 and M6. According to Crisis24, drivers received advice to expect an increased security presence.
Travellers should be prepared for delays between Johannesburg and eastern Pretoria over the day.
