The Braamfontein gas explosion sent shockwaves through the community. Emergency services have swiftly responded, confirming that the incident has injured five people, as reported by EWN.

According to officials, the explosion transpired as Egoli Gas employees were busy with maintenance work on a pipeline at the intersection of Bertha and De Korte streets. Their truck caught alight, and a section of a nearby building was damaged.

The spokesperson for Joburg EMS, Nana Radebe, said, “At this moment, we can confirm that five people have been injured and taken to various medical facilities around the city. We have just completed the damping down process, and our next step is to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.”
