A Kaalfontein man was sentenced to life for murder. The Ivory Park SAPS station commander has expressed satisfaction with the recent life sentence handed down to Michael Vusi Dube for the brutal murder of his wife.

The South Gauteng High Court sentenced Dube, 44 years old, for the murder of his 47-year-old wife, Patricia Tshabalala. He received this sentence earlier this month. It marks a significant step in the battle against gender-based violence.

The tragic incident unfolded during a heated confrontation at the couple’s residence in July 2021. Dube’s actions, which led to the repeated stabbing of his wife, highlight the alarming prevalence of gender-based violence in communities.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, emphasised the importance of the life sentence as a deterrent to potential abusers. He underlined that violence has no place in domestic disputes and that perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.

Ngcobo called upon community members to play an active role in addressing gender-based violence by reporting incidents promptly. He urged victims to speak out and seek help when confronted with signs of abuse in relationships.

To support victims of gender-based violence, the Ivory Park SAPS, like other police stations across the country, provides victim-friendly rooms that offer privacy and support. Ngcobo stressed the importance of reporting incidents by urging witnesses to contact the police through the emergency hotline at 08600 10111.

A toll-free helpline is available at 0800 150 150 for women needing assistance and support.
