The City of Ekurhuleni, renowned for its thriving business community and commitment to fostering economic growth, officially recognises the significant contributions made by the beer industry to local job creation and revenue generation.
Nomadlozi Nkosi, the Municipal Member of the Executive Committee (MMC) for Economic Development in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), recently participated in the third Annual State of the Beer Economy event. This event, hosted by South African Breweries at Alrode Brewery in Alberton on September 7, provided a platform for industry participants, business leaders, and government officials to convene and deliberate on the beer industry’s profound impact on the regional economy.
During her participation, Nomadlozi underscored the enduring importance of the beer sector as a vital driver of economic growth within the city. The industry supports local businesses, plays a pivotal role in job creation, and contributes significantly to municipal revenue through its multifaceted operations.
Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to engage with industry leaders and glean valuable insights into its growth potential, Nomadlozi commended the proactive efforts of South African Breweries (SAB) in raising public awareness about responsible alcohol consumption and the potential risks associated with binge drinking. SAB’s initiatives aim to encourage consumers to exercise responsibility for their alcohol consumption.
Highlighting the city’s ongoing commitment to promoting responsible alcohol use, Nomadlozi outlined various initiatives, including collaborations with community organisations, educational programs, and robust law enforcement measures to combat underage drinking and mitigate alcohol-related harm.
In her closing remarks, Nkosi emphasised the need for collaboration among industry stakeholders, government bodies, and community organisations. She reiterated the importance of responsible alcohol consumption. She stressed the critical necessity of strict adherence to liquor legislation as fundamental principles that should guide all involved in the beer industry. This collaborative approach aims to ensure a balanced and responsible approach to the consumption and regulation of alcohol within the city.
