According to Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, a police spokesperson, law enforcement is aware of the surge in criminal incidents in the Raslouw area and its neighbouring areas. These incidents include robberies and individuals impersonating metro police officers.

While patrols are already being conducted, Van Dyk stressed the importance of victims reporting these incidents and opening cases for investigation purposes. He highlighted that for police to make arrests and effectively address the issue, victims must come forward.

Jasmine Moodley, a Raslouw resident, expressed her concerns over the recent surge in robberies and spiking incidents along the R55. Although some community members have reported these incidents to the local police, actual victims have yet to open formal cases.

These crimes have particularly impacted women who travel along the route late in the evening, raising doubts about the authenticity of traffic officers in the area.

Sundram Khan, another resident, echoed Moodley’s concerns about the difficulty in distinguishing between genuine and fake law enforcement officers while driving on the route.

Van Dyk advised residents to remain extremely vigilant and, if they encounter suspicious activities, to seek safety at the nearest service station. He emphasised the importance of residents reporting such incidents to enable effective police action.
